My Story

A Happy Accident.
If there was ever a title to the story of how I became a photographer that would undoubtedly be it. After graduating from college with a degree in Communications: Public Relations & Marketing, I took the first job that I could find, which happened to be a sales position for a food & supply distributor based in Detroit, MI. After 25 months with the company, I had had enough of living life on the road. So, once again, I took the first job that I could land, which brought me back to my hometown of Dixon, IL. After only 5 months at my new gig, COVID arrived. Illinois went into lockdown, and I was laid-off indefinitely.
So, what do you do when you're laid-off and there is a worldwide pandemic on the march? Well... you finally buy the camera you always wanted and start taking pictures, of course.
For as long as I can remember, I've had a fascination with pictures. Old tintype, film, contemporary digital, it didn't seem to matter. I was so enamored with the art that I even took a class in college but didn't own a camera, nor did the school provide students with one. Yup, that's me.
So, when I finally had the opportunity to get a camera, I jumped at the chance. Not long after I began publishing pictures, people began approaching me, asking for my services. In December of 2020, I made it official and launched Iconic Capture.
A few months later, Jim Grot, of Grot Imaging Studios, whom I consider the best photographer in the Sauk Valley Area, approached me and asked if I would be interested in running his School & Sports Program. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity. Since, the fall of 2021, I have been running the School & Sports Program for Grot Imaging Studios, as well as, continuing to grow my own company Iconic Capture.
The rest, as they say, is history.
